Coatings and Finishes

Zinc Plated (Clear and Yellow) Electro-Galvanized Hot-Dip Galvanized Black Finish PTFE Coating Plain Stainless Steel
Engineering notes: high-strength screws (10.9 and 12.9) need hydrogen-embrittlement precautions with plated finishes, and hot-dip galvanizing is generally not recommended for them. Stainless screws can gall (seize) when tightened, so use anti-seize lubricant for repeated assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a screw and a bolt?

In general, a bolt is tightened with a nut, and a screw threads into a tapped hole or directly into the material. In practice the terms overlap, because some hex-head products are named “screws” in DIN and “bolts” in ISO. See our Hex Bolts page for bolts.

What are Allen key screws called technically?

They are hex socket head cap screws, made to DIN 912 / ISO 4762. “Allen key screw” is the common trade name.

Which screw material is best for coastal environments?

A4 (316) stainless steel, in A4-70 or A4-80, gives the best resistance to chlorides and salt-laden air.

What does class 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 mean?

It is the strength class under ISO 898-1. The first number relates to tensile strength, with 8.8 at 800 MPa, 10.9 at 1040 MPa and 12.9 at 1220 MPa minimum.

What is the difference between self-tapping and self-drilling screws?

Self-tapping screws form their thread in a pre-drilled hole. Self-drilling screws have a drill-point tip that drills and taps in one operation, which saves time on steel cladding.

Can you supply custom or special screws?

Yes. We can make special screws to your drawing, including special lengths, materials, threads and finishes.

Do you supply certificates?

Yes. Material test certificates and traceability documents are supplied with every order.

Do you deliver outside the UAE?

Yes. We supply Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
